89) Lasik

Wolran Kim

Years ago, I watched my husband’s Lasik surgery on a screen

His windows must have always been cloudy
His eyeball appeared just like Saturn’s ring
Such as a page out of a medical Encyclopedia
All the living lights were shut off
A microscopic cutting tool sliced a layer of the cornea
A minute error of refraction was adjusted by the laser
A new cornea swept by a tiny brush like a toy
It took less than 15 minutes for both eyes

He wore a plastic eye patch for a few days
He woke up with a sigh of admiration every morning, I can see the clock!

Like wiping a digital camera with a sleeve
The surgery was simple
If the focus of life could be adjusted from a moment of operating
If the curvature of life could be aligned vividly from a moment of process
If the clock of fate could be seen from a simple incision and suture

Doesn’t life always sway blurredly?
Often hurt by loved ones, in your eyes
