43) The Time of the Cemetery

       Wolran Kim

Dawn to Dusk”

The cemetery near my house

The opening time was written like this on the front gate

This sign would not be written without construction delays

The other world’s time would not be realized without stopping

The dead copy the living’s time

Let’s call this beautiful stagnation without any retreat or advance

A retired suburban picnic without any depression

Let’s say this is enjoying the street view on a walk

This proclamation is more accurate than Arabic numerals

The beginning and the ending of the genre of life

That were declared commonly, simply hanging like a fallen leaf

Why do people want to stay together even beyond life?

Should I be buried over there like them?

In the middle of an alien city which became my home

Should I exhume and bury my time in that weedy field too?

It is 3 PM, not the time to encounter my name on stone

While reading the epitaphs after parking

Lying people became monumental stones written by the setting sun

On artificial grass, their heights grow from the west to the east everyday

Those close-mouthed people raise their shadows that are delivered from passions

The earth clock unfolds calmly in the middle of the city

The boundary betweenthe hazy light and the dark

On the rusty gate that never opens again for people who want to leave

The time of the grave is hunglowly as an inscription

A construction sign changes from STOP to SLOW

Four wheels going to leave somewhere

A navigator shows me the place of departure and the destination

Dawn to Dusk”
