친구야

 

모래가 반짝이는 강변에 살자고

우리의 동심은 나래를 달았지

철 따라 변하는 가슴에도

꿈은 무르익어 갔지

 

눈빛 하나만으로도 드리워지는 그림자를

밀물처럼 밀려오는 그리움을

침묵해도 텔레파시로 열꽃을 피웠지

지금 나는 첩첩이 쌓아 둔 사진첩을 뒤척인다

 

지금껏 살아있어 만나다니

사막에서 오아시스를 만난 이 기쁨

어언 60이 꿈같은 세월로 지나가

희끗한 산수(傘壽)를 넘겼구나

 

우리의 여정은 달랐지만

그래도 영글은 나이테처럼 곱게 익었구나

 

내 동무야

너를 보고 있노라면

뛰노는 꽃사슴처럼 춤사위를 벌이고 싶다

오! 나의 친구야                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     *미주 서울대학교 동창회보에 실린 나의 수필을 읽고 전화번호 알아내어 만나게 되었음.

 

  1961년에 헤어진 후 60여년 만에 만났으니 그 기쁨이 오즉하랴!

 친구는 원래 서울 출신인데 한국전쟁 때 안동으로 피난와서 학교를 같이 다녔다.

 

My old Friend

We said,

“Let’s abide at nearby riverside of glistening golden sand.”

Our juvenile mind of purity, genuineness and authenticity

Was growing with wings.

In the bosom of all creation changing from four seasons

Our colorful dreams were ripened.

 

Through the expression in your glittering eyes,

I could perceive shadow of sorrow and

Homesickness like surging waves of ebb tide.

 

Even in silence,

I could read your mind through telepathy,

I was in full bloom of your love.

Now I turn over album full of pictures.

 

I have lived to see you until now.

How excited and thrilled I am to meet you

Like an oasis in the desert!

We turned 80’s with grey hairs,

And 60 years have elapsed since we departed.

 

Our friendship is like glue so attached to each other.

“You stand always for me and I am so happy,

 I am so pleased because you are ever there for me.”

 

Although the courses of our lives have been diverse,

We are matured and ripened like annual rings of tree.

 

My beloved comrade, Jung Hee!

When I behold you, I wish to dance with you embracing

Like galloping deer on the pasture,

Reading our old faded diary like panorama.
