바람의 빛깔

     모든 자연에는 빛깔이 있다. 우리는 아름다운 자연을 바라볼 때 형형색색의 조화로운 배합에 매료되어 탄성을 지르곤 한다. 그런데 한평생을 살면서 바람에도 빛깔이 있을까하고 생각해 본적이 없다.

     며칠 전에 제주도에 사는 오 연준이란 소년이 부른 ‘바람의 빛깔’이란 노래를 동영상을 통해 듣게 되었다. 10여 세 안팎으로 보이는 아주 귀여운 소년이 아주 청아한 목소리로 눈망울을 깜박이며 불렀다. 가사 내용도 아주 시적인 서정이 담겨 있어서 감동을 주었다.

     이 노래 제목이 ‘바람의 빛깔’이었다. 이 노래는 듣고 들어도 마음이 새로워지고 기분이 상쾌해진다. 나는 바람의 빛깔은 어떤 색깔일까 하고 곰곰이 생각하게 되었다. 일상에서 무심이 넘겨버린 내 무딘 감성을 깨우쳐 준 두 마디 ‘바람의 빛깔’

     “사람들만이 생각할 수 있다고 그렇게 말하지는 마세요/나무와 바위 작은 새들조차 세상을 느낄 수가 있어요/자기와 다른 모습 가졌다고 무시하려고 하지 말아요/그대 마음의 문을 활짝 열면 온 세상이 아름답게 보여요/달을 보고 우는 늑대 울음소리는 뭘 말하려는 건지 아나요/한적하고 깊은 산 속 숲 소리와 바람의 빛깔이 뭔지 아나요/바람의 아름다운 저 빛깔을….

     얼마나 크게 될지 나무를 베면 알 수 없죠/서로 다른 피부색을 지녔다 해도 그것은 중요한 것이 아니죠/바람이 보여주는 빛을 볼 수 있다면 바로 그런 눈이 필요한 거죠/아름다운 빛의 세상을 함께 본다면 우리는 하나가 될 수 있어요.”

     이 노래 가사에서 내가 감동을 받은 대목은 ‘달을 보고 우는 늑대 울음소리는 뭘 말하려는 건지 아나요’ 와 ‘얼마나 크게 될지 나무를 베면 알 수없죠.” 이다. 달을 보고 늑대가 왜 울까 하고 깊이 생각하게 되었다.

     상식적으로 늑대는 사나운 짐승으로 사람을 공격하고 다른 짐승을 잡아 먹기 때문에 맹수에 해당한다고 본다. 이런 사나운 짐승도 아름다운 달을 쳐다보면 감격하여 운다고 생각해 보기도 하고 추운 겨울 바람은 견뎌도 외로움은 견딜 수 없다고 울부르짖을 수 있다고 생각해 본다. 양심이 없고 말 못하고 정서가 없는 동물일지라도 자연의 아름다움에 매료 도취하여 울음으로 감정을 표출할 수 있다는 파라독스(역설)가 나오는 것이다. 혹은 아무 감성이 없다고 생각한 동물도 밝은 달밤엔 외로움을 견딜 수 없다고 울부짖을 수 있다고 생각하게 된다.  만물의 영장으로 태어난 인간이 아름다운 바람의 빛갈을 볼 수도 없고 느낄 수도 없다면 늑대에게도 부끄러운 일이라 생각하게 된다.

     ‘얼마나 크게 될 지 나무를 베면 알 수 없죠 .’ 참으로 의미심장한 말이다. 나무가 잘 자라도록 가꾸어 열매도 맺게하고 큰 나무는 재목으로도 사용할 수도 있게 해야 하는데 충분히 자라기도 전에 성급하게 베어 버리면 아무 쓸모가 없게 된다는 뜻일것이다.

     요즈음 한국에서 일어나는 어린이 학대와 폭행 사건으로 죽음으로 몰고 가는 어른들 특히 부모들의 횡포가 극에 달한 것을 볼 수 있다. 자기 친자식까지 죽음으로 몰고 가는 비정한 부모들, 하물며 성직자까지도 딸에게 폭행해 죽게 한 이 현실을 무엇으로 표현해야 할 지 난감하다. 새순과 같은 어린 연약한 생명을 잘 보살피고 양육해야 하는데 자라기도 전에 나무줄기를 꺾어 버리는 현실이 참으로 서글프다.

     노래 가사처럼 얼마나 크게 나중에 될지도 모르는데 어린이의 장래를 전혀 볼 줄 모르는 눈이먼 부모들. 그러니 늑대보다 감성이 메말라 버린 사람들. 우리가 모두 자연을 사랑하는 법을 좀 배우면 좋을 것 같다. 자연은 우리들의 위대한 스승이라고 말했듯이 자연에 고개 숙이고 자연을 사랑하고 보호하고 자연과 친해지는 것이 정서를 키우고 감성이 풍부해 지는 지름길이 될 것이다.

     바람의 빛깔이 무엇일까. 바람의 빛깔은 무지개 빛깔처럼 아름답다. 바람이 하는 일을 한 번쯤 생각해 보자. 민들레 꽃을 만나 요정이 되어 꽃씨까지 날려 보내는 바람을 만나면 나도 꽃이 되고 싶다. 소나무 송홧가루를 날려 보내어 소나무 향을 피우고 봄에 피우는 갖가지 꽃들의 향기를 산들바람으로 흩날려 온세상에 스며들게 한다. 그 향기는 지친 몸과 마음에 파고들어 보듬어 주고 진정시키는 약보다 더 좋은 자연의 선물이 된다. 바람이 물을 만나면 물결을 일으켜 반짝이는 푸른 물빛이 되고 불가에 머물면 훨훨 불붙게 하여 어두운 온세상을 환히 밝히는 붉은 빛으로 우리의 마음을 뜨겁게 만드는 것이다.

     바람이 없다면 물 없는 사막처럼 너무나 무미건조한 삶이 될 것 같다. 노래 가사처럼 바람이 보여주는 빛을 볼 수 있다면 우리는 하나가 될 수 있다고 심금을 잔잔히 울린다. 어떻게 하나가 될 수 있을까. 바람을 통한 갖가지 빛을 서로가 본다면 이심전심이 되어 하나가 될 수 있다고 본다. 아름다움의 극치에 서로가 눈에 불을 켜 바라볼 때 눈에 불꽃이 튀어 하나가 될 수 밖에 없다고 본다. 사람이 바람의 빛깔을 볼 수 없다면 바람은 폭풍을 일으켜 바람의 위력을 보여주며 바람의 빛깔을 느껴 보라고 우리를 조용히 흔들 것이다. 바람의 빛깔을 볼 수 있는 마음의 눈과 영혼의 눈이 열린다면 우리는 행복한 사람이 될 것이다.

   There are many colorful hues in the nature. When we behold the beautiful nature, we are used to exclaim in enchantment with the beauty of harmony and co-ordination of various colors. However, I have never imagined if there are hues in the wind all my life.

Long ago, I heard a song called ‘The Colors of the Wind’ by the lad, Oh, Yun Jun who lives in Cheju Island through YouTube. The boy looked very charming with appealing sweet voice blinking his eyes. The lyrics are very poetic with emotion feeling. I was touched with lyrics of the song.  

The title of the song is “The Colors of the Wind”. When I hear this song over and over again, I feel refreshed and anew. The two words “The colors of the wind’ awakened me from my blunt emotion. I ignored what it meant in my daily life and I didn’t even think about it. The lyrics of the song are as follows:

But still I cannot see

My favorite passages from the lyrics of the song are “Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon?” and “How high does the sycamore grow? If you cut it down, then you’ll never know” I deeply meditated why the wolf howling looking up the moon. The wolf is a ferocious wild animal that attacks people and other animals. I suppose that such animals cry out after he sees the beautiful moon in sentiment. I think that he can endure cold gust but can’t endure loneliness. That’s why he howls sadly.  

Blind parents can’t foresee the future of children who can be successful in life. Like lyrics of the song, they can grow big later. Nobody foretell how great they will be in the future if we spoil their lives carelessly. Some parents are drained of emotion worse than wolf. That’s the reason why they ill-treat their children.  

We should learn how to love the nature because the nature is our great mentor. We should be humble toward the nature and are responsible for protection of the nature. We should commune with nature. These are a short cut to grow susceptibility and to be overcome with emotion. There are abundant treasures in the nature. We should find out  

What they are.

   I wonder what the colors of the wind are. I think the colors of the wind are beautiful like rainbow. Let’s think about what the wind works even once at least. I would like to be a flower when I see the wind blow away the seeds of dandelion in the air as an elf. The breeze scatters pollen of pine trees and spread aroma around. The fragrance of various flowers permeates nearby by the wind. The aroma is like herb medicine as tranquilizer to our body. These flowers are gifts from nature. If the wind blows over the sea, it makes the blue waves sparkling. If the wind lingers around bonfire or ember, it makes them to flare up and it leads dark night to light brightly. It makes us to feel touched and to be overcome with emotion.

Our lives will be very dry and desolate like desert without oasis if there is no wind around us. If we could see the colors of the wind like lyrics of the song, we could become one altogether. How could we become one? I am sure we can become one by telepathy if we can see the colorful hues of the wind. When we look up to one another with ideal of beauty and aspiration to love the nature, we can’t help but become one and spark off in all directions from our burning eyes.  

If man can’t see the colors of the wind, the wind itself develops into windstorm with mighty force. The wind shakes us to perceive the colorful hues of the wind. We will be happy persons if we have eyes of mind and eyes of spirit to see the colors of the wind. Nature is our best teacher. If we don’t love nature, we can’t see God through it.
