Mushroom Parasite, Ya Cha Gum Ba
Soo Yong Kim
In Mt. Himalaya over 5,000 meters by altitude
Mysterious mushrooms, Ya Cha Gum Ba, grow in worm
Like parasite.
A golden herb called eternal youth!
Nepalese people risk their lives to pick these herbs and
Their journey on foot looks very perilous and adventurous.
Crawling on hands and knees to look for the herb
In the mountain.
In the naked rocky mountain
Suffering from altitude sickness,
I am so touched to tears to see that they catch the herb
In the risky adventure.
They are sick and tired of poverty and determined
To live better off,
They have to walk along the steep pass for two weeks.
At last, they reach the mountain where they are destined to mount.
Their risky struggle for existence looks so bitter that somehow
It looks superb.
A spore to be parasite enters the worm(larva)
And grows to sprout,
If the snow in the mountain melts away.
The herbs are well known to a cure-all precious and precious.
At Do Ta Rap, Nepal, traders of Nepal load packages
On the back of donkeys and yaks and reach the altitude.
They fight for the survival for the fittest on the spot.
They collect the herbs found in the search of like miners
Digging the gold kindling the lamp of their eyes.
Between the border of China and Tibet,
There is a market called Chung Ra, and over there
The traders gather together and do business deals.
After Nepalese traders sell the herbs at the highest price,
They tighten the purse strings at their sides and return home
Triumphantly. On their sunburnt wrinkled faces,
Their smiles are in full bloom with the waves of golden herbs.
Their pilgrimage to Himalaya will keep going on
From generation to generation.
The Nepalese only dream to fulfill, Ya Cha Gum Ba!
Their blue dream to become better off is rather touching,
And even beautiful.
