나는 본 적이 없다
       -죽음의 계곡에서

탄성이 침묵으로 되돌아오는
광활한 신神의 솜씨를 보았다.
거침없이 쏟아지는 사막의 열기 속에
미소 지으며 앉아 있는 자연의 품위
그렇게 당당하고 눈부신 자태는 본 적이 없다.

거대한 돌산 가슴 가슴에 접힌 주름
세월의 아픈 흔적을 보았다
참다 참다 불덩어리로 터트려버린
열정과 노여움의 깊은 상처도 보았다
그렇게 지축을 흔드는 큰 울음은 본 적이 없다

모래와 돌 틈 사이사이 힘겹게 뿌리박고
앙상한 가시 몸에
혼신의 꽃을 피우는
풀잎들의 뼈아픈 삶을 보았다
그렇게 목숨을 바쳐 일어서는 것은 본 적이 없다

밤하늘엔
구석구석 날카롭게 꿰뚤어 보는
수억의 눈동자가 있었다

어둠이 오면
땅위의 혼들 모두 하늘로 올라
별이 되는 것일까
그렇게 형형하고 두려운 눈빛은 본 적이 없다

밤새도록 바람의 언어로 쓴 시詩가
아침마다 사막에 놓여 있었다
먼 수평선을 흔드는 깊고 푸른 파도와
금빛 비단 위를 흐르는 감미로운 선율
그렇게 영혼을 울리는 시詩는 본 적이 없다

아! 그렇게 가득한
무언의 탄성이 있는 곳
나는
나는 본 적이 없다

Exclamations turn into silence
In the vast God's workmanship that I saw
In the sweltering desert heat that poured down without any restraint
Nature sits in her poise, smiling
Never have I seen such regal dignity, such a brilliant posture

Those wrinkles crumpled in every heart of mammoth stone mountains
They are painful scars of times that I saw
After enduring and enduring, it erupted into fireballs
Those wounds of fervor and anger, I also saw
Never have I seen such great bleating that shakes the axis of the earth

Rooted forcibly into crevices of sands and stones
On scraggy and thorny bodies,
bearing flowers with all their souls and might
I have seen the insurmountably painful lives of those plants
Never have I seen such survival of total dedication and devotion

In the night sky
Keen-eyed sharp staring through every nook and corner
Were hundreds of millions of eyes

When darkness falls
All the souls on the ground rising into the sky
Do they become stars
Never have I seen such piercing and dreadful eyes.

Poems, written all night long with the words of the wind
Were there every morning in the desert
The deep and blue waves that shake far away horizon
The mellifluous sound that flows upon golden silk
Never have I seen such poems that move souls to tears

Ah! the place
Where silent exclamations fill the space
Never,
Never have I seen.
