어린 자슈아(Joshua) 나무

언 사막을 녹이던            
해가
돌산 뒤로 물러났다
빨간 노을에 갇힌
까만 자슈아 나무
녹다 만 눈밭에
어린 발로 딛고 섰다

어둠이 사막을 덮을 때
터져 나올 별들은        
어젯밤 못 다한
지난날 사막 이야기로
자슈아를 사로잡겠지  
  
몇 억만 년 밤을 지새워
바위가 돼 버린
여인의 알몸 위로 솟은 새벽이
밤새 언 자슈아를
뽀얗게 품을게다

태양은 내일도 종일토록
눈을 녹일 테지
터진 발끝 타고
촉촉한 물기 온몸에 번지면
황홀한 우윳빛 꽃 피울 날을
멀리, 간절하게 바라볼까    

얼어붙은 사막을
버티고 선
어린    
자슈아 나무

The sun melted the frozen desert
Disappeared behind the rocky hill
The black Joshua tree
Locked against the sunset's red glow
Stands with his little feet
On the half-melted snow field

When the darkness covers the desert
The bursting stars
May enthrall the Joshua
With their ancient desert tales
Unfinished from the night before

The dawn rose from the nude body of the woman
Who had stayed up millions of nights
Became a rock
And will embrace with a whitish glow
The Joshua that had been frozen all night

All day tomorrow the sun will melt
The remaining snow
When the icy water seep up from the ripped toes
It will flow throughout the whole body
Then will he look forward eagerly
To the day when the milkish, enchanting flower bloom?
