54. 새 천년 새 아침에

 

 

새 날, 새 아침, 새 하늘, 새 땅, 새 바다

새 나무, 새 꽃…

새 천년이 열렸다

새들아 날아라, 바다야 파도야 일어서라

나무들아, 풀꽃들아

때까치, 개구리, 두꺼비, 하늘소, 딱정벌레, 꾀꼬리

너구리, 노루, 사슴, 사자, 승냥이, 다람쥐…

모두 고개 들어 하늘을 바라보라

살아 있는, 빛나는, 아름답게 떠 있는

천 년 만 년 변함없는, 속삭이며 반짝이며 일렁이는

눈으로도 마음으로도 닿을 수 없는, 태양과 별, 은하로부터

하늘 속의 하늘들을 바라보아라

태양은 하루도 아무렇게나 떠 오른 적이 없다

태양은 하루도 아무렇게나 진 적도 없다

방황하거나 비틀거린 적도 없다

수천 수억 만 년 타는 가슴 사랑의

맑고 밝고 따뜻하고 깨끗하고 단정한 모습으로

말없이 다가와서

우리들의 꿈을 읽어 주고

우리들이 흘린 피의 수런거림을 들어주고

나 하나의 존재까지 빛과 그림자로 확인하며

어둡고 추운 겨울을 동행해 왔다

속박에서 자유를

불의에서 정의를

압박에서 해방을

암흑에서 광명을

탄생에서 죽음까지 화안히 비춰주는 빛

우리 부활의 감격 그대여

이제는 말하리라

하늘과 땅 사이 우리도 이렇게 살아 왔고

이렇게 살아 갈 목숨인 것을

큰 소리로 외치리라

얍복 강가에 내리던 새 햇살로 오시는

2000년의 새 볕이여, 승리의 절정이여

천상천하 우주의 주인이시여

오늘 아침 당신의 오심에

너무 눈이 부시다

54. On a New Morning of a Millenium

 

 

New day, new morning, new heaven, new earth, new sea,

new trees, new flowers…

A new millenium has begun

Birds, fly, sea and waves, arise

Trees, blooming grasses,

crows, toads, long-horned beetles, weevils, orioles,

foxes, bucks, does, lions, jackals, squirrels…

All of you, lift your heads and behold the sky

Behold the heavens in the firmament,

the sun and stars,

alive, radiant, floating beautifully,

unchangeable for thousands of years, whispering, shining, undulating,

where neither eyes nor heart can reach

The sun has never risen whatever way any day,

has never set whatever way any day,

has neither wandered nor faltered

It has quietly come close

in clear bright warm pure simple countenance

of love aglow in heart thousands and billions of years,

has read our dreams,

has listened to the cry of the blood we shed,

has declared even my mere presence by light and shadow

and walked with me all the black and cold winter days

The light illumining from birth to death

freedom from bondage

righteousness, from unrighteousness

deliverance from oppression

splendor from darkness

The bursting joy of resurrection, you

and I shall tell it now

and shout

that between the heaven and earth we have lived thus

and will live thus

The new light of the year 2000 coming as new sunshine

that shone on the River Jabbok, the pinnacle of victory,

The Lord of the universe beyond the sky and below the sky,

Thy coming this morning

is far too glorious
