37. 동지

 

 

내 평생은

햇볕보다 그늘이 많았다

그늘 속에서 햇볕을 내다보며

많이도 울었지라

 

따스하게 사는 것만이 사는 것이 아닌

춥게 살아도 사는 것은 사는 것

 

이젠 울지 않을란다

천만 겹 그늘에서도

내다보이는 햇볕

 

오늘 하루 밝은 날

그래도 그늘이 길다

 

 

37. Winter Solstice

 

 

All my life

there was more shadow than sunshine

I wept much

in the shadow, looking out at the sunshine

 

To live in warmth is not the only way to live

and to live in cold is also a way to live  

 

I will not weep again

I see the sunshine

in multitudinous shadows even

 

It is a bright day today,

but casting a long shadow
