33. 반세기만에 만나서

 

 

반세기만에 찾은 고향

소학교 때 급우 재섭을 만나

너 술 한 잔 해라 하기에

나 술 안 해 했더니

그럼 담배나 한 대 피우려므나 하기에

담배도 안 피워 하자

그 친구 하는 말

너 사람 버렸구나 하더군

 

그래가지고야

반세기 동안 쌓인 회포를 어떻게 풀잔 말이냐며

눈물 그득 한숨을 쉬더군

 

그와 나는 순두부 한 그릇씩 비우고

기약 없이 헤어졌다

반세기만에 만나서

 

 

33. Meeting Someone after Half a Century

 

 

I returned home after half a century

and met an elementary school classmate Jae Seop

He said, Take a glass of wine

I said, I don't drink

He said, Then smoke a cigarette

I said, I don’t smoke, either

What he then said was

You're beside yourself

 

Therewith 

how can we unbosom ourselves after half a century,

so saying he sighed, full of tears

 

He and I emptied a bowl of soft tofu each

and then departed

shortly after meeting each other after half a century
