21. 여정에 오르며

 

더 가까이

바라보고 싶어

이 밤에

당신 곁으로 갑니다

가진 것 다 버리고

한 가닥 남은 목숨으로

당신 곁에 있고 싶습니다

 

하늘을 뚫고, 땅을 가르며

육지를 지나, 대양을 건너

네덜란드 암스테르담을 거쳐

이집트 카이로로, 요르단, 시리아로

이스라엘 예루살렘으로

다시 요르단으로, 시리아로

이집트로, 이스라엘 예루살렘으로

헐몬 산, 감람 산, 느보 산, 시내 산으로

얍복 강, 나일 강, 갈릴리, 지중해, 홍해, 사해로

축복의 땅, 저주의 땅, 싸움터와…

바다 같은 모래광야와… 가도 가도 끝없는

몇 만 평의 하늘과 땅과 바다를 달리고 헤매야

당신은 거기 계십니까

 

지금 나는 죄얼에 얽힌 

한 마리 외로운 짐승

이 세상 설움에 절어

무릎이 꿇어지지 않고

두 손조차 한데 모아지지도 않는

만신창이 검은 핏덩어리로

당신께 굴러갑니다

 

가서, 내 붉은 피로

당신 가슴에 새기고 싶은 말씀이 있습니다

주여 나는 죄인이로소이다

당신의 두 손으로 맑게 씻기시옵소서

 

눈물 젖어 살다가

마른 잎으로 땅에 누울지라도

나는 당신의 것

아직 살아 있음에

당신과 함께 걷고 싶습니다

 

오늘 밤 별빛은 유난히도 밝습니다 

 

 

21. On My Journey

 

 

Longing to behold you

more closely

I come to you

tonight

I long to leave all I have

and be by you

as nothing but a mere strand of life

 

Across the sky, along the dirt,

through the land, over the ocean,

crossing <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Amsterdam, the Netherlands,

to Cairo, Egypt, to Jordan and Syria,

to Jerusalem, Israel,

back to Jordan and Syria,

to Egypt, to Jerusalem, Israel,

to Mt.Hermon, the Mt. of Olive, Mt.Nebo, and Mt.Sinai,

To the JabokRiver, the NileRiver, the GalileeSea, the Mediterranean, the Red Sea and  Dead Sea,

the land much blessed, the land much cursed, the battle grounds...

sandy wilderness like sea… as I run and wander

through thousands of *pyong of the endless sky, the lands, and the sea,

are you there  

 

I am a solitary creature

bound by the chain of sin and guilt

The sorrow of this world has seized me

I can't even bend my knees

nor put my hands together

a mere blackened lump of bloody wounds,

I roll toward you

 

There I long to inscribe on your bosom

with my crimson blood

Lord, I am a sinner

wash me clean with your hands

 

Though I live in tears

and shall lie in the dirt like a withered leaf

I am yours

and my desire is to walk with you

as I live

 

The starlight is uncommonly bright
