새해 첫날

하늘과 맞닿은 태평양으로

달려나갔다

 

해 뜨고, 해 지는 소릴 들으러

바다 빛 위에 속삭이는

바람소릴 들으러

 

지난해가 두고 간 마지막

말을 들으러

아내와 함께 달려나갔다

 

해는 점점 멀어지고

어두워지는 바닷가에

아내와 나뿐

 

잠 속으로 빠져드는 우주에 싸여

우리 둘은 여지없이

씻겨지고 있었다

 

두 개의 영롱한 진주알처럼

 

 

85. The First Day of the New Year

 

 

The first day of the New Year

we ran out

to the Pacific Ocean touching the sky

 

To listen to the sun rising, and setting,

to listen to the wind

that whispers over the light of the sea

 

and to hear the last word

that the last year left behind

my wife and I dashed out there

 

The sun was sinking deeper and deeper

and on the darkening seashore

no one but my wife and I

 

Enveloped in the universe falling asleep

two of us clearly

were being washed

 

like two sparkling pearls
