어머니의 못

액자 하나 제대로 못 거는
내 서툰 못질이
남편 따라 미국으로 오면서는
어머니 가슴에
커다란 대못 하나
야무지게 잘도 박았습니다.
바람 불고 비 오는 날이나
햇볕 쨍쨍 맑은 날에도
언제나 젖어 있던 그 못자리
수 십년
그 못에 겹겹이 걸어두신 그리움
뼛속을 드나드는 그 무게로
하얗게 휘었던 몸
지금은
해돋는 바닷가 언덕에서
젖었던 시간 꺼내어 말리고 계시겠지요
너는 내 가슴에
못 같은 건
절대로 박은 적 없다고
피 같은 건
더 더욱 흘리게 한적 없다고
손사래 저으시던 어머니

A picture frame can't be hung properly
With my poor nailing skill.
Yet accompanying my husband to the States
On mother's heart,
a large spike
I pegged down so well and firmly.
On windy days or rainy days
Even on those days when the sun shone so brightly
The spike spot remained wet all the time
For a few decades
Hanging layer upon layer the longings on that spike
The weight piercing even to the bones
Body bent to white
Now
On the hill near the sun rising beach
Mom must take out those wet hours to dry
You did never never
Peg any such thing
As a spike on my heart
Neither let any
Such as blood to shed, no, no, no...
Mom used to wave her hands.
