I have a rendezvous with Death,
At some disputed barricade,
When Spring comes back with rustling shade
And apple-blossoms fill the air-
I have a rendezvous with Death

When Spring brings back blue days and fair.
It may be he shall take my hand
And lead me into his dark land
And close my eyes and quench my breath-

It may be I shall pass him still.
I have a rendezvous with Death
On some scarred slope of battered hill,
When Spring comes round again this year
And the First meadow-flowers appear.

God Knows' it were better to be deep
Pillowed in silk and scented down,
Where love throbs out in blissful sleep.
Pulse night to pulse, and breath to breath,
Where hushed awakenings are dear-
But I've a rendezvous with Death
At midnight in some flaming town,
When Spring trips north again this year,
And I to my pledged word am true,
I shall not fail that rendezvous.

나는 죽음과 밀회한다,
분쟁의 바리케이트에서,
봄이 바스락거리는 그림자되어 돌아올 때,
그리고 만개된 사과향기 가득할 때-
나는 죽음과 밀회한다

봄이 푸르고 맑은 날들을 되돌려 올때,
그는(봄) 나의 손을 잡고
그의 어두운 영토로 이끌어
나의 눈을 감기고 나의 숨을 끄는 것과 같다.

그것은 마치 내가 그의 곁을 조용히 지나는 것과 같다.
나는 죽음과 밀회한다
강타당한 언덕의 상처 입은 비탈에서,
올해 다시 봄이 돌아올 때
그리고 최초의 초원의 꽃들이 피기 시작할 때.

신은 아신다
비단에 깊이 머리를 눕히고 향기에 잠기는 것이 더낳다는 것을,
행복한 잠 안에서 사랑이 요동치는 곳에서.
맥박에서 맥박으로, 그리고 숨결에서 숨결로,
조용히 잠에서 깨어나는 것이 절실한 곳에서-
하지만 나는 죽음과 밀회한다
한밤중의 불타는 도시에서
봄이 올해 다시 북쪽으로 향할 때,
그리고 나는 맹세 컨데 진정코,
죽음과의 밀회를 실패하지 않을 것이다.
