광활한 사막 가운데

모를 심은 듯 질서정연한 나무

척박한 환경에서도

꽃을 피우고 열매 주렁주렁

 

기기묘묘한 바위산에

매료되어 바라보느라면

나도 모르게 불랙홀에 빠져들어 간다

 

비가 자주 오지 않아 매마르고 건조한 땅

그럼에도 신의 숨소리가 느껴지는 신비의 땅

큰 암석들이 서로 뒤엉겨

씨름하듯 빚어진 만물상

절대자의 간섭이 만들어 낸 엄청난 걸작품

절묘한 조각가의 솜씨가 신기하고 놀라울 뿐

 

그 크나큰 바위 앞에 서면

왜 이리도 작아지는지

코끼리 같았던 내가 개미처럼

작아지는 것 왜일까

 

겸손하게 낮아지고 낮아져

그분 앞에 납작 엎드리면

그제야 그분이 보이기 시작한다

 

광활한 조슈아 트리 국립공원에서

그와 랑데부한 이 황홀한 전율

이생이 다 하도록 내 가슴에 비문처럼 새겨져

끊임없이 흐르는 생수가 되리라

한폭의 아름다운 추억 속의 그림

하늘을 가득 채운다. 

Joshua Tree National Park

In the vast desolate desert,

Joshua trees are planted like rice seedlings

All over the place in singular manners.

 

In spite of arid desert landscapes,

Joshua trees are in full bloom and bearing fruits.

 

I am indulging into the Black Hole with enchantment

Beholding various rugged rock formations,

Standing here and there. 

 

In the droughty stark desert,

I can feel God’s breath in mystery.

Various big boulders wrestling with one another

Were sculptured by Almighty God.

 

I made exclamations on His exquisite mysterious way

Of carving to create masterpieces.

 

I am shrinking to a smallest figure,

If I stand before the lofty huge rocks.

 

I wonder why I become as tiny as an ant,

Who seemed like a giant elephant.

 

If I become humble and modest before Him

And I surrender myself to Him completely,

He appears visible in the Spirit and in vision at last.

 

What an overwhelming exultation and inspiration

In rendezvous with Him it is in this vast National Park!

 

It will be engraved in my heart like an epitaph, and

Letting Living water overflow endlessly from within.

It is a beautiful memorable picture

Filling azure sky.
