황혼길의 친구/ A friend in one’s twilight years

뚜벅뚜벅 들어선 막바지 길어귀

원치도 않았고 초청장도 없이

그저 세월의 흐름에 떠밀려 온 뒤안 길
 

까마득히 걸어 온 인생의 여정은 만남의 연속

모르고 딩굴기만 하던 철부지 시절이 있었고

배움과 의무의 터전에서

급기야 사회 각처를 전전하며

 

굽이 굽이 돌 때마다

덤으로 붙거나 떠나는 친구들

드물게는 죽마고우의 로또도 있지만

그저 편의상 스쳐가는 수많은 그림자들

 

역동적인 삶의 수레를 돌고 또 돌던 젊은 날들

산전수전 다 겪고 난

느지막의 인생길에 오르니

많은 붕우(朋友)들이 붕우(崩友)되어 떠난다

 

어느듯 접어든 칠십고개를 넘기며

다시 만난 참된 친구

잃었던 날들을 함께 꿰맞추며

터벅 터벅 걷는 황혼의 발걸음이

한결 평온하고 가볍기만 하다

A friend in one’s twilight years

 

Strutting to enter the last passage

Unintended and uninvited

That I merely reached by the endless time-shift

 

The long journey throughout a life span

A continuation of encountering fellow humans

From a childhood with full of fun and innocence

In a fulfilling life in education, social and national obligation

And living and working in every which way of society

 

When turning around at each junction in life

New people join as well as others leave

In a range of lifelong friend(s) to just acquaintance(s)

In one’s heydays with ample youth

Life is full of dynamics and excitements sharing with anyone

 

At the age of an old timer

And in the path of late life

A very few remain after falling out one by one

On a whim by reasons of own gain whatsoever

 

A reunion with an old friend nonetheless,

in the twilight of sunset trail

Life-minded, so dear and faithful

Inspires the last trudge

Much lighter in comfort and joy
