휑하니 뒤가 열려
오 가는 바람 쉬이 지나고
별빛 그림자 어른대는 대청 마루

방금 퍼올린 감자 밥 열무 김치 

미역 된장국 윤기나는 찰 옥수수 

구수하게 술렁대는 저녁 밥상

매캐한 쑥대 모기향 피우며 할머니는

우물물 차가운 수박 한통 썰으시고
우리 손주 꼬마들은 입담 좋으신 

할아버지의 구구 절절 

옛  이야기에 숨 죽이다보면

아까는 그렇게 요란하던 
개굴 개굴 개구리 합창소리 
아스라이 점점 멀어지면서

어느새 스르르 
꿈나라

여름 밤
 

 

A Summer Night

 

 

On the main floor where the wind comes and goes easily

through the opened window of the back wall, 

the shadows of starlights were glimmering.

 

On the good-smelling and clamorous dinner table, 

there shows just steamed potatoes, 

young radish kimchi, a bowl of sea-weed soy bean soup, 

sweet corn freshly cooked.

 

In the smoke of fumigating mosquitoes, 

while our grandma was cutting the melon just out of the cold well, 

we, the grand-kids were listening to the interesting story 

of our grand-pa, often holding our breaths,

 

For the feeling first time the chorus of frogs was so loud, but later, 

feeling the noise disappearing little by little,

we began to sleep in no time one by one in the land of dreams, 

on the naive summer night.
