Watching a mountain I could never reach,
I pat a rock that must have fallen from that height.
The body that must have woven a savage meaning,
Has now entered into a complete equanimity
Now breathing unruffled breaths.
Despite the rapidly changing weather,
The rock has not lost its temperature.
When the darkness gathers fully in the mountain,
The rock accepts it as it is.
With the secret sounds within,
The rock is invoking the stars.
The rock that was stars beyond time
Must still remember their language.
The stars respond,
Gathering between hill and rock.
Some stars, even before hearing calling voices,
Send their replies beforehand.
At this sunset the sickle which Kronos* momentarily
pitched out millennia ago
Is soaring as a young moon.
* Kronos is the god of time who usually carries a large sickle.
몇 만년 전의 답신

닿을 수 없는 저 산
그 높이을 바라만 보다가
그 곳에서 떨어져 나왔을 바위를 어루만진다
저 깍아지른 곳을 떠나며
잔혹한 하강의 의미를 새겼을 몸체는
이제 고른 숨을 쉬며 완전한 평정에 들어 있다
급변하는 날씨에도
바위는 체온을 잃지 않고 있다
어둠이 산 속 가득 고이면
바위는 그것을 고스란히 받아 안는다
그 속의 비밀스런 소리들
바위가 별들을 불러내고 있다
아득한 시간 너머 별이었을 바위가
아직도 자기들의 언어를 기억하고 있는지,
별들이 대답하며 산과 바위 사이로 모여들고 있다
어떤 별들은 부르는 소리, 듣기도 전
회답 먼저 보내고 있다. 몇만년 전에
크로노스*가 잠깐 던져 놓은 낫이
초승달로 떠 있는 저물녁.
*그리스의 신. 큰 낫을 들고 있는 시간의 신
